@JuliaHB1 @Telegraph so BMI is the right measurement is it? On that scale I'm obese but I bet you won't train with me for my 26th marathon.

@nav07 forget BMI - everyone can spot a fat kid and kid that isn't fat. -
@JuliaHB1 you are still welcome to run with this fat boy -
@nav07 except it's not fat, it's muscle! X -
@JuliaHB1 maybe it is but this isn't the intervention to change things. Of course it's unhealthy and dangerous but it needs new thinking -
@nav07 the parents I have spoken to who have fat kids are all in denial that they are doing anything wrong. But they are. -
@JuliaHB1 and that's why they should be part of the intervention in diet and activity. Fact is the system is failing. -
@nav07 it is failing, yes, but that because everyone is tiptoeing around the real problem which is lazy, selfish parents. - 1 more reply

@JuliaHB1@Telegraph Julia Hartley "Black and White" Brewer. According to the BMI index some Olympic athletes are classed obese. -
@Brew_BBQ utterly irrelevant. You don't need a BMI calculation to tell which kids are fat and which kids are not. -
@JuliaHB1 you've used the BMI method in your article. Its a poor measurement. Also internal fat that can't be seen is very dangerous. -
@Brew_BBQ no, the school measuring is done to calculate BMI. Everyone knows it is a very broad brush calculation. Anyone can spot a fat kid. -
@JuliaHB1 if its so broad why use it? Any old data to whip up hysteria? As I said internal unseen fat much more dangerous. -
@Brew_BBQ I don't use it. The people measuring kids do. -
@JuliaHB1 you used it as a reference in your article to paint a picture of the swarms of "fat kids" and their terrible parents. -
@Brew_BBQ yes, because that is how kids are measured in school - 1 more reply

@JuliaHB1@Telegraph Suggest you research corn syrup and fruit sugars -
@mrchrisjohn yep, I know plenty about them and agree that food companies have a lot to answer for. But not all kids are fat so... -
@JuliaHB1 Well until we know the full facts on these the 'calories in vs calories burned' argument is no longer proven -
@mrchrisjohn but if it's just the nasty stuff they put into food now, then EVERYONE would be fat. Too many kids eating too much bad food. -
@JuliaHB1 Not so as genetic differences in the population e.g Leptin variances between individuals regardless of diet -
@mrchrisjohn yes, people's bodies work differently but it's just a coincidence that people who live on fast food & fizzy drinks are fat, but
