Oh, and in case you were wondering, that basketball shot was a slam dunk on one take...https://amp.twimg.com/v/9608d5b4-548d-4bef-aec1-3bc198e6ce64 …

@JuliaHB1@bbcthisweek@afneil You generalize recipients of tax credits as lifestyle choices, snobbery and disdain guide your argument. -
@MikeDavies_LV no, it's called statistics, not a generalisation.
-
@JuliaHB1 Statistics that pry into the motivation and circumstances of recipients can also be guided by snobbery and disdain. -
@MikeDavies_LV I'm sure they can, but these are just objective stats that tell us something is horribly wrong with the system
-
@JuliaHB1 I would never know how 'objective' a set of statistics might be but 'working' tax credits were a *good* incentive 2 increase hours -
@MikeDavies_LV no, that is what they were supposed to do, but in fact they disincentivise the second adult in a couple to work at all.
-
@JuliaHB1 You lose 41p of Tax Credits for every £1 you earn above £6,420. (I googled). 'Disincentivise' is a generalisation of motivation. -
@MikeDavies_LV yes, but they are still better off and taxpayers are too.

@hayden_sheila so you really don't see any difference between money that belongs to people and money that is given to them by the state? -
@JuliaHB1 if wages where higher no need for tax credits,if profits where shared more equally,everyone would benefit you won't like that, -
@hayden_sheila I absolutely agree with you on wages but not on profit sharing. Entirely up to private companies what they choose to do -
@JuliaHB1 Even banks -
@hayden_sheila yes, even banks - within the law and within sensible regulation. Which is not what happened pre 2008 (or since!) -
@JuliaHB1 that's double standards if the banks can't manage themselves properly tax payers should not bale them out,go to the wall -
@hayden_sheila yes, I agree - except when a bank going under means the collapse of our entire banking system and our economy. - 1 more reply

@JuliaHB1 Thought I was going to disagree with your piece. You raised some good points. Although not all on part-time hrs able to find more -
@JuliaHB1 if@George_Osborne is as politically astute as people say. Why was the government unable to frame the argument as you did? -
@ml_davies to be honest with you, that's what I don't understand! -
@JuliaHB1 Maybe the answer is that "they" really don't understand how "ordinary" families live their lives.
