ICYMI: The campaign to end VAT on tampons is one of the silliest the sisterhood has ever mounted. Me for @Telegraphhttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-politics/11957498/The-campaign-to-end-VAT-on-tampons-is-one-of-the-silliest-the-sisterhood-has-ever-mounted.html …

@JuliaHB1 Just cause it isn't big issue doesn't mean shldn't be addressed. If insist on sorting biggest issues 1st we'll never do anything. -
@jamesoflynn there is a difference between some thing being a minor issue and it being so infinitesimally small that irrelevant to our lives -
@JuliaHB1 Whether it's infinitesimal is opinion, as with many issues. Imo whole premise of 'there are bigger issues so ignore it' is flawed. -
@JuliaHB1 Once it got all the way to Parlt & 'wasted' all that time, I'm yet to see reason Govt voted against then agreed to do it anyway. -
@jamesoflynn The govt hasn't agreed to change the tax. It has no powers to do so. EU law. -
@JuliaHB1 It's agreed to take issue to EU, hasn't it? Which I understood was what the motion requested. -
@jamesoflynn yes, but not a chance in hell of getting it changed. Vast majority of EU govts want an end to all zero rate VAT. -
@JuliaHB1 So could have done same thing without generating all the 'woman haters' frothing about Cons voting against the motion. Bizarre. - 1 more reply

@JuliaHB1 It is a tiny amount, but the amount isn't the issue. A tax can be morally wrong (like inheritance tax). -
@_TheGMan there are many many taxes that may be seen as morally wrong. Plenty of necessities face far higher tax than 5%. Priorities. -
@JuliaHB1 Agreed, wouldn't be my top priority (I'd drop IHT, stamp duty, capital gains etc first) but it should still be abolished. -
@_TheGMan hence my article about why the campaign over the tampon tax is so silly. -
@JuliaHB1 It's better than the campaign to put women on bank notes.

@Rooneyisshit good grief, I couldn't give a toss what other people think! I just object when they tell me what I should think/write/say.

@JuliaHB1 Its a principle, and hygiene isn't a luxury, a basic of modern life, food has zero VAT or maybe we revise to 'let them eat cake?' -
@Simpletonslogic and yet soap and shampoo are subject to VAT at 20% - four times the rate on tampons. -
@JuliaHB1 yes I am aware but wears the soap is an old gag, and a bottle of shampoo does seem to work i'm told he he but take the point
