A cheap holiday is not a human right – or a valid reason for missing school. Me for @Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/secondaryeducation/11798587/A-cheap-holiday-is-not-a-human-right-or-a-valid-reason-for-missing-school.html …
@cascriven out of interest, what does he do and why can't you all go on holiday at other times?

@JuliaHB1 works in football so July/August is pre-season, every match he works (so that's about 44 weeks of the year no weekend). -
@cascriven and you can't go away for five days at a time instead? Just asking... -
@JuliaHB1 5 days when? Not in July or August - he travels with team so means he's physically away. -
@cascriven that's what I'm asking! Maybe he needs to think about getting a different job if you all want more time together? Just a thought. -
@JuliaHB1 my children are 4 & 1 - I don't think 5 days missed schooling is worth my husband having a career change! -
@cascriven yes, but they will get older and missing a week's school every year is not acceptable. It is also illegal. -
@JuliaHB1 it's within the tolerance of attendance at our primary school too. I haven't made this decision lightly to get a cheap week of sun -
@cascriven I understand! But you shouldn't have to be put in this position! - 4 more replies
