@JuliaHB1 @Telegraph standing up for nanny state is very disappointing. Responsible parents should be allowed two weeks in quiets periods

@wolfman_55 what "quiet periods"?! -
@JuliaHB1 how about the last weeks of the year when our school has an enrichment week or a charity week -
@wolfman_55 well, personally, as a parent, I would be complaining to the headteacher if every school day is not used for teaching. -
@JuliaHB1 both of my children's schools are rated good and both wind down post sats.... -
@wolfman_55 a "good" rating means it's a so-so school. Even some of the outstanding ones are below par. You & other parents should complain. -
@JuliaHB1 both of my children are doing very well, I have no need to complain thank you. -
@wolfman_55 but you're satisfied with your kids going to a school where teachers don't actually do their job for weeks every year. Wow. - 7 more replies

@JuliaHB1@Telegraph I should decide what is best for my children, not some government bureaucrat. -
@Matt_Th0mas on that you are wrong. The reason the state imposes legal duty for a child to be educated is precisely cos so many parents fail -
@JuliaHB1 where does it end, I mean they will be telling us what we can give our kids for lunch next ...... -
@Matt_Th0mas it would seem that far too many parents don't do their job properly so yes they do. -
@JuliaHB1 why blanket authoritarianism instead of targeted measures against problem families with fat children or a history of truancy ? -
@Matt_Th0mas there are precisely those measures -
@JuliaHB1 You are wrong, there is a blanket ban on all sugary sweets & term time holidays, not just on those who's children need protecting -
@Matt_Th0mas who's ? Look who needs to go back to school? - 3 more replies

@JuliaHB1@Telegraph Sorry Julia this is a class thing. This -http://www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/11713269/Were-all-going-on-a-family-gap-year.html … is ok, a 'cheap holiday', not so? -
@Briesias huh?! I don't think the family gap year is acceptable either - unless they homeschool, which is legal but shouldn't be in my view -
@JuliaHB1 The paper u write 4positively advocated this fancy gap year as a learning exp. Who's 2 say there's no homeschooling on'cheap' hols -
@Briesias the journalist who wrote the article wrote his/her opinion. I write mine. It's not the Telegraph's opinion, it's mine. -
@JuliaHB1 Ok, but note, Telegraph's position (disruptive) gap yr ok, but lots of (disruptive) 'cheap' hols not. Itsa class/ socio-econ issue -
@Briesias no - and this is really not complicated - the two articles are written by different journalists both taking personal positions.
