@JuliaHB1 Was important to stamp on that too. Yes they are anti-immigration (at least publicly - privately business-minded Tories quite pro)

@IanDunt and it's ok that more mass immigration of low skilled workers will hurt the immigrants who are already here more than anyone else

@JuliaHB1 Academic research shows immigrants tend to increase productivity in sectors they enter, drive up demand & boost GDP by £bns.

@IanDunt you know there are plenty of reports showing good and bad things. One thing not in doubt is downward effect on low skilled wages.

@JuliaHB1 Actually that is very much in doubt & vast majority of academic literature points to broad economic benefit

@JuliaHB1 Simple maths really: We have too many old people. We need influx of young people of working age to pay for their care.

@IanDunt I accept that, but we should choose the people who will most benefit our economy & we should build enough homes & schools to cope!

@JuliaHB1 Well they either find a place in the economy or they leave. People aren't here for benefits or the weather. They want work.

@IanDunt vast maj of immigrants don't earn enough to be net taxpayers. We'd be better off if unskilled Brits did those jobs, not on dole

@JuliaHB1 @JosephTaylor26 @IanDunt What if our unskilled Brits are less skilled than migrants? Our education system isn't doing well is it.

@dancludlow @JosephTaylor26 @IanDunt we need to educate and train up Britons to do the work that is now often done by immigrants.
