Happy to tip (more than 10%) but not happy to be asked to tip twice and to be asked to add 2nd tip on credit card machine. What's the law?

Right, since no one seems to understand my query. This:pic.twitter.com/ILC1zP7lsq

@JuliaHB1 The existence of tipping at all is a sign of massive wealth inequality and meaningless tokenism to assuage guilt. -
@JuliaHB1 Having previously lived in Los Angeles for 10 years, the anti-tipping rant is a reflex. Shame to see the UK go the same way. -
@mellowman1001 I'm not ranting against tipping. I'm an ex waitress! I tip very generously. I just object to being asked to tip TWICE. - 1 more reply

Ok, to be clear, I am not querying whether a service charge is legal or optional etc, but stating GRATUITY not included when SERVICE charged
-
@JuliaHB1 You can deduct any "optional service charge" that they choose to add and pay the pre amount, legally! -
@lottielaw199 you are on target for blocking! Please stop answering a question I didn't ask!!!!! -
@JuliaHB1 Really sorry I dont understand. Obvs, i am thick! - End of conversation

@JuliaHB1 Optional means exactly that and you can ask to have it removed - And a gratuity is also optional -So you do not have to pay either -
@mrchrisjohn I know neither is required. That is not query. It's the inclusion of a charge AND a statement that a gratuity is not included -
@JuliaHB1 Look up the definition of gratuity - Personally I would refuse to pay anything additional and if they argue the let them sue -
@mrchrisjohn we weren't being required to pay either. You've not read my tweets properly. -
@JuliaHB1 It appears to be scam in that case and check if 100% of tips you may decide to give go to the staff

@JuliaHB1 Not a legal expert, but that's standard practice. You're under no obligation to pay the service charge. -
@cranfieldadams no, it's the inclusion of a charge and also a statement that a gratuity is not included that I am querying
-
@JuliaHB1 I understand. It's standard in my experience. You're under no obligation 2 pay either. I often ask 4 charge 2 B taken off the bill -
@cranfieldadams I prefer to tip waiter in cash not on credit card machine so I know they get it personally. But that's still not my point!
-
@JuliaHB1 Same here. I understand your point. It's misleading, but standard in my Covent Garden experience! Hope you enjoyed it though!
