Brilliant from @JuliaHB1 in defence of student maintenance grantshttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/general-election-2015/politics-blog/11670517/The-Tories-are-kicking-away-the-ladder-for-young-people-wanting-a-decent-education.html …
@DromorePark @oflynnmep you think taking out tens of thousands of pounds in loans isn't a major worry for 18yr old from poor home? Wow.
-
-
@JuliaHB1 @oflynnmep It is deferred tax which is not repayable unless you reach a certain threshold of income. Even then payments are small. -
@DromorePark that threshold is very low and those debt payments are a huge problem for young people saving to buy a home etc -
@JuliaHB1 If on the average salary of £24k, repayments are £49 per month. Much less than a pint of beer or a glass of wine a day.

@JuliaHB1 @oflynnmep I have studied in detail. These are not real loans given that majority will be written off after 30 years by government -
@DromorePark Some people have morals and feel a duty to repay loans. I’ve heard people express this at hustings events. @oflynnmep -
@RTaylorUK @oflynnmep Given that 60% of student loans will be written off, why would I as a taxpayer want to pay twice?

@JuliaHB1 @oflynnmep It is a worry for people because they do not understand the nature of the liability. It is not a traditional loan.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
