There have been many myths in the Brexit saga. The idea that we can adequately “prepare” for a no deal is the biggest one yet. It’s like a collision with an oncoming vehicle. You can brace for impact but you’re still going to get hurt. My #SkyViews. https://news.sky.com/story/sky-views-we-cant-prepare-for-no-deal-nearly-as-much-as-you-might-think-11784954 …

Nope Julia, only to the truth. Ask anyone involved in no deal “preparations” and they will tell you the same. For example, the head of the UK’s counter terrorism force warning last week our security would be imperilled by no deal and no preparation could change that.

Of course not. Are you saying you know more than the former head of MI6 Sir Richard Dearlove, because he doesn’t agree with your analysis. But what the hell would he know, huh?

John Scarlett, also former head of MI6, totally disagreed with Dearlove about Brexit and thought it was very damaging to the UK's security, as he wrote about.

Yes, so maybe these things are less a matter of indisputable fact and more a matter of disputable opinion - which should not therefore be presented as fact.

As with almost all controversial topics you’re the living embodiment of confirmation bias. You listen to those “experts” who conform to your world view but disregard any, usually in greater number or who have more authority, that don’t conform to it.

A no deal Brexit will transfor the marketplace in which British companies and consumers buy and sell. By definition that has to have an effect. And government can’t prepare for it because that is literally what a no deal Brexit is. pic.twitter.com/jQqkON3o4t

No deal will change the supply systems - fact. Will have an impact on supply chains - fact. Industries in this country rely on just-in-time and just-in-sequence producton - fact. Impact of a stop to frictionless trade can only be negative to these systems - fact.

They can dispute them all they want but these are the simple, basic consequences of currently operating under a certain system of trade and then suddenly stopping. Point me to anyone saying JIT production doesn’t literally depend on frictionless trade. I’ll wait.

But the status quo is not the same as a hypothetical change. You cannot 'prove' that Brexit won't be damaging to UK security. However, the status quo of Remain proved that remaining in the EU did not damage our security.

The problem with this approach is that you can always find someone who disputes "facts". If you are going to go down this route, you will need to introduce an acceptance of "weight" to an expert opinion and advise your followers accordingly.
