I don’t own a 4x4 but I’m quite tempted to buy one now just to piss off whoever slapped these “tickets” on my neighbours’ cars.https://twitter.com/juliahb1/status/1161584966423240704 …

It can be when you've had too much champers.
Most 4x4’s these days have the same range of engines, and therefore emissions, as regular saloons. Being higher end cars, they also tend to have the latest emissions tech. Once again these campaigners misguided.
So put the same tech in a smaller vehicle and bang, even lower emissions
Outward size doesn’t really factor into it. Smaller Jaguar E-Pace uses steel chassis and is heavier than larger, aluminium, F-Pace. If we really want to reduce emissions. Offer incentives to trade in 5+ year old cars. All those older Golf’s, Fiesta’s etc.
Scrapping a 5 year old car and building a new one will cause far more pollution than just driving the thing and removes the less well off from motoring. Trading it in creates vastly more pollution if they buy a new one and the old car stays on the road.
Beautifully put
That made me laugh. A different point - London has a very highly-developed (& highly-subsidised) public transport system. But people prefer their expensive family tank.
