I know it's a bit complicated, Julia. But of me and The Charlatan, only one of us asserts an entitlement to choose a form of Brexit that no one voted for based on the votes of only 90,000 disproportionately elderly, wealthy, white men.

The assertion that no one voted for no deal is a massive lie. Leave voters knew that no deal was a possible outcome. The vote was to leave - whatever the circumstances.
-
Although you may be content with a No Deal exit now, I don't see how you can say it was what you voted for because it was not on offer by Leave campaigners in 2016. No one on the Leave side was saying: "vote Leave for No Deal."
-
David Cameron said it before the referendum we knew what we were voting for

@JolyonMaugham - it must be a parody account????? If he were a genuine Queen's Cousel he would know that the mandate for a No Deal was provided by a majority of 498 MPs that voted to trigger Article 50??!! -
Absolutely, but by putting that argument forward you have to also accept that those same MPs can also vote to stop Article 50.
#WhatsGoodForTheGoose -
They triggered article 50 on the basis of a mandate from the people. They have no mandate from the people to revoke.

Now with his new court case coming, I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes subscriber-only

Oh yes
#PM@BorisJohnson does have a mandate, which both the#Conservative &#Labour parties manifesto stood on. It was given to him by 52% of the#UK voting public 3 years ago, which is to deliver#Brexit in FULL! The biggest recorded vote ever in#UK history. Rollon a#P45#GE -
Except Boris's No Deal wasn't part of the referendum or either party platforms.

If I need a barrister to argue an impossible case with a straight face, remind me to call on the services of Mr Maugham-Kettle. Treble Chateau Thames Embankment's all round!

Jo has led a court case, access to justice and the rule of law are key bulwarks against an overmighty executive. As someone who purports to be a democrat you should understand this.

Maugham is one of those people for whom the leave vote drovwe him mad. To be fair though he does have a huge vested interest in our remaining: he does EU Law.

You’re right - he won power by getting 67% of the square root of the most unrepresentative fuck-all you can imagine to vote for him, and half his policies seem to come from his girlfriend. But apart from that he’s a towering colossus of democracy in action.....
-
I tend to think of him more as a quivering sack of 'democracy' in action, but I take your point...
