Still can’t remember anyone in the Labour Party complaining about the unelected Alastair Campbell wielding huge power in Blair’s governments. And *all* party leaders are elected only by their own members. That’s the point of having leaders of political parties.https://twitter.com/nickcohen4/status/1159173994651750400 …

I doubt that Dominic Cummings will produce a dodgy dossier to lead @BorisJohnson into an illegal war resulting in the death of thousands of innocent civilians and destabilising of the Middle East for decades to come.

Blair was elected three times by huge majorities, Johnson has never been elected. Johnson has chosen to put a strange, probably psychotic, very dodgy, unelected man as his effective number 2 (some would say number 1). I think we have a reason to complain.

I’d say we have a lot more to regret from the election of Blair than anything Boris has done so far. Alastair Campbell was no great shakes either compared to Dominic Cummings

Blair had positive achievements as well as disasters, although the disasters were huge. I find Cummings extremely disturbing, I don’t particularly admire Campbell, but Cummings is terrifying by comparison.

We’ve had anarchy, lack of discipline&collective responsibility in government for too long a period. To turn that around takes a strong hand amidst turmoil. People with that ability won’t be universally liked or even pleasant, look at Tito or Ataturk who brought unity from chaos
