And, once more for the slow people at the back of the class... Seven out of the last 10 Prime Ministers of this country have been educated at state schools. Most of those went to grammar schools. @AyoCaesarhttps://twitter.com/AyoCaesar/status/1148563389767147520 …

I don’t think 7% of the country should produce 84% of British Prime Ministers. That’s why I’m backing the campaign to integrate fee-paying schools into the state system. #AbolishEton 💪🏾 pic.twitter.com/t9xXhbdE2t

I'd be more impressed if there was a determination to increase the standards of the state schools to that of the fee-paying schools, rather than dragging down and punishing success.

Well said, private schools show what can be achieved, but it would take massive funding of state sector. Easier to remove achievements and say great everyone now equal.

Our nearest private school does no better in league table terms than the top performing states. The head was even criticising league tables as putting undue pressure on pupils.(think that was to hide their own failings)

It won’t stay in business for too long with those results. But with odd exceptions private schools do perform better for many reasons. But IMO closing them will not improve the state school performance

And what happened to the Grammar school? Oh yes, the aristocratic left realised they gave working class kids a chance, so they got rid of them.

Im afraid I have switched my view on this. All Grammar schools do is suck resources away from other state schools. I guess it depends whether you believe in a better education for the many or a privileged few.

Let’s start with fewer university places , only for the brightest and the best, more apprenticeships inc 10000 nursing and police apprentices, plus free university tuition for all state pupils.

I went to uni but I 1000% believe a lot of students just go to uni because it's the done thing and they get to be dependant for a lot longer and don't have to face real life! It's just the done thing nowadays and far far too many people go when they'd be more suited to work

You have to pass entrance exams to qualify, either 11 Plus or Common Entrance exams. Neither are for dummies. The elite schools are elite for good reason.

Have a voucher system then! It’s not the funding that makes independents great at helping kids, it’s the teaching they get there (clue - it’s not based on socialism)
