Just pointing out when Brown and May tested their popularity with actual voters, both failed to get a majority in the Commons. Wonder if the next PM who gets to No.10 without an election will face a similar result...

Yup of course and entirely right... but every modern day PM surely derives their legitimacy and authority beyond merely members and even their party leadership.
