        None of the candidates are ‘actively pursuing a no deal Brexit’. They just understand that the only way the EU will negotiate is if they know we’re prepared for no deal.

        £39 billion is a big nothing. Still, you appear to think it’s preferable to go into negotiations saying “I want a good deal, but if you give me a really bad deal I’ll have to accept it.” Interesting.

        £39B is an existing liability. It will cost us more if we lose our credit rating by not paying. No deal is clearly much worse for UK and so is an obvious bluff and provides no negotiating power.
