Seven out of the last 10 British Prime Ministers went to state schools (most of those were *grammar* schools).https://twitter.com/tnewtondunn/status/1141770557354074113 …

What we now know: Britain’s next Prime Minister will be a white Englishman, aged 52-55, who was educated at a major public school and then Oxford, and has recently worked in the Foreign Office. Like quite a lot of previous Tory PMs.

Bringing facts into an argument is an underhanded tactic Julia... Tom, I expect better from you. Other than a few who thrive on the politics of envy, most of us actually don't give a shit which school someone went to. Isn't it a good idea our leaders had the best education?

Since 1935 there have only been 2 English Leaders of the Labour and Conservative Parties WITHOUT a privileged education. James Callaghan for Labour John Major for the Conservatives Equality of Opportunity ? Not for those without a private education, without Oxford or Cambridge

Great argument for stating that state education is failing us all then. Not for stating private education is bad.

Of course. The issue isn't private education. The issue is the continuing extreme discrimination against individuals without a privileged education. @BBC ? Even those that excel within state education don't have the same opportunities as failures from Oxford and Cambridge.

Since the massive expansion of Comprehensive Schools by the Labour Government in 1965, the majority of working class children have been denied an educational route to success. The National Curriculum has only made the situation worse. .

Now we agree. It should be that all state schooling should be at the level of the best private. However, politicians, for political purposes/principles purposely held people back.

What is the problem with that? We are not yet overrun by chip on their shoulder people whose education is sorely lacking. This is England not Pakistan.
