“It isn’t ‘extremist’ to call the niqab oppressive and ridiculous, as Boris Johnson did. The real extremists are those people who want to protect Islam from public debate and ridicule. That is genuinely backward and intolerant”, says Brendan O’Neillhttps://www.spiked-online.com/2019/06/14/boris-was-right-about-the-niqab-its-oppressive-and-ridiculous/ …

whilst I agree women should be allowed to wear what they want, they should be prepared for ridicule if they step too far outside British norms, and this could include any form of dress which seems alien. A woman walking down the street in a swimsuit would attract weird comment

Neitzche said 'The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently." I guess you can add 'look alike' too

But that's the problem with burkas and niqabs... everyone looks IDENTICAL in them, as well as totally concealed.

The number of British Muslim women sporting burqas is infinitesimally small (the hijab seems a more popular style of headwear). If we’re talking formulaic, identikit dressers though look no further than us westerners with our predilection for jeans and trainers.

Do you wear your jeans and trainers over your face?

Once again, most western islamic women don’t even wear the burqa so what’s your point?

The point is that no one should be wearing them.

Women from the Haredi sect, a group of ultra Orthodox Jews also sport the burqa. Do you reserve condemnation for them also?

I don't care if they are Japanese ninjas... the reason for a face covering is irrelevant. It's the face covering itself that is offensive.

You may find the garment oppressive and antithetical to female liberation but some Muslim women wear it of their own volition and feel it affords them a sense of honor/group identity and safeguards them from objectification. Personally speaking, I’d rather the state >>

doesn't matter why people wear what they do. If their attire is very different from the British norm (men or women), it invites comment and maybe ridicule. Jeans are very common dress. Anyone who doesn't want to conform with normal dress rules should be prepared for this.
