Can someone explain the politics behind Boris' pledge to cut taxes for people earning over £50K. Is the Conservative Party actively seeking to install Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister.

With a hard left opposition, they have the opportunity to return to proper Conservative values - low taxes, smaller state etc. Instead, they pander to leftists. Let's leave socialism to the experts.

Social democracy is all it is. Just like they have in Scandinavia.

Isn’t he offering a tax cut to the very people that will have to pay more under a labour government

As someone who has worked up the ladder from the bottom I'd appreciate not having 40% of my income taxed as a reward. However I would also benefit if the tax free amount was increased which would benefit all workers so...
-
You’re also someone who has benefitted from the services government provides, and you’re not having your income taxed at 40%, only the portion between £50k and £150k
-
Yeah I get that. I've also seen where the majority of that tax goes and I'd much rather keep it thank you :)

I don’t earn that much, but no government should take 40% of anyone’s income.

I wouldn't mind giving a hard working doctor a tax break.
-
Why? They work no harder than a lot of other people. My last 3 GP’s all worked a 4 day week and all retired early. Some might say that’s because they work too hard, I say they retire early because they can afford to. They are already rewarded for the job they do.

£50k isn’t much if it’s the only income into the family household. The tax break could easily be funded by better use of foreign aid budget, improved efficiency in NHS etc, etc.

It would probably have little impact on the actual tax take and be lost among other (tax cutting?) policies nearer a GE unless an early GE catches them off guard.

Is he trying to outdo May with her genius 2017 GE idea to tax the elderly for care?

@talkRADIO#brexit#theresamayresign#BorisJohnson@HouseofCommons@Iromg _ To be fair to Boris Johnson, he's not really known as a man of his word, so he can make whatever pledge he wants. Although as this is for his mates he's probably keen to do it.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I disagree. The Middle aspirational Class has shrunk and needs a boost. We want to encourage people to move up the ranks and this move to decrease the amount the Government takes from them is welcome.
-
The poorest need the boost so they can aspire and move up the ranks. Not those that already have rank. Plonker

Maybe you are not from the UK and don’t realise that the poorest don’t pay any income tax at all.pic.twitter.com/QfMWzZ82zS

Maybe youre not from here but i am. My friend has started cleaning windows and does some gardening. When he gets a new customer and earns that money is deducted. Work that into your statistics

Its what happens when someone is attempting to work themselves off benefits.

I wonder what category you fit into?
