By my count that Trump presser embarrassed 1. any Brexiter insisting NHS isn't part of any US trade deal 2. Corbyn 3.Michael 'I don't know Michael' Gove 4. Trump himself, as usual 5. a watching nation, because the buttock clenchingness of it..

US will put it on the table. I'd expect any British PM to try & take it off. What do they give in return? How much longer does a deal take if this becomes a sticking point & what are knockon effects? This stuff is why trade deals take forever

We need Hugh Grant!

Can I point out that when they say it is on the table it does not mean that we end up with a US system. It means that private firms might be allowed to tender and provide certain things like eye operations or scans and I have had both with NHS and even now they were outsourced
-
I don't think anyone in this conversation is assuming it does, to be honest (though the big issue on the US side seems to be drug pricing, not contract tendering)

How do we get a deal without it.

No US trade deal's better than a bad US trade deal, as for some reason they don't say.

Like the EU, the US will bend to the UK's will. China will follow. Because we are British, they are foreign and we've got all the unicorns.

What does it mean anyway? If the NHS tenders for external services I don't see why U.S. businesses shouldn't be able to compete. That's very different from scrapping the concept of the state paying for healthcare and moving to an insurance system.
-
exactly, they should be able to tender. politicians and some media are deliberately implying it means something different

“NHS, a lot more than that” what else is there? They will have us over a barrel, we have nothing more to give. Anyone still advocating a no deal is seriously delusional. He may have done us all a favour
