Sadiq Khan calls Trump a “fascist”, likening him to a man who murdered six million Jews. Yes, Trump is a nasty, racist, sexist narcissist and unfit to be US president. But Hitler he ain’t. FFS. Can we please have grown-up conversations about this stuff?pic.twitter.com/VOd9b3cU5N

Very slowly, so we're sure you've got it. Hitler was a fascist. Fascism is a political ideology. There have been many fascists. Not every fascist needs to act as Hitler to be a fascist. Fascism is a destructive, murderously ideology, even without a figure like Hitler.

When he said “the fascists of the 20th century”, do you think he meant to include Hitler or not? If not, perhaps he would have specified that. He didn’t. The comparison with Trump is ridiculous and insulting to victims of Nazism. Is that simple enough for you to understand?

If he specifically meant Hitler, Mr Khan would have specifically identified Hitler. Unfortunately, fascism manifested as a ruling power in Italy, Chile, Austria, Hungary and Spain, among others at different times, completely independent of Nazism. Each had a horrific impact.

He meant all of them, including Hitler. And yes, I studied the rise of 20th century fascism and am well aware that there was more than one 20thC fascist. Do you assume everyone is thick or just me?

I was merely applying Occam's Razor. So, having eliminated ignorance as the motivating factor for your outburst, we move on to malice. Instead of intentionally skewing his words, why not address the substance of the remark - the parallels he notices?

So I’m malicious now. Okaaaay. Maybe people could just criticise Trump for what he does and says, and what he stands for, without the need to lazily compare him with 20thC fascists. This is the sort of stupid rhetoric that is going to result in him being elected again.

Well, to be honest, you've given enough cause for some to think that... If the bloke repeats the same rhetoric as past fascist leaders - right down to variations of the same slogans, why shouldn't people be able to point that out? He's not immune from comparison!

Mike, you have the patience of a saint for trying to educate the Waitrose Katie Hopkins. She doesn't argue in good faith. Her cognitive dissonance was evident from the first post..

Never claimed to be. So is everyone not born in a council house “privileged”? That’s a hell of a lot of privileged people in Britain.
