Minor but very very central point. A fascist/fascism is political philosophy characterized by authoritarian views and no tolerance for opposing opinions. Fascist traces to the Italian word fascio, meaning "group, bundle."

Oh look, Jen’s got a dictionary
-
Well you caught me there. Well played! Those pesky dictionaries always ruining people’s tweets with their accurate & succinct definitions. When will I learn?pic.twitter.com/LtGPGBbOeK
-
Dear me, it’s the fact that you thought you were adding anything useful to the conversation.
-
I was just adding definitions and facts on the topic you yourself posted on. Facts are generally thought to be useful to a discussion. But I can see, they are not wanted here. Don’t worry, won’t happen again.pic.twitter.com/F2LJ1DsQSw
-
No, you didn’t add anything
-
Jesus! Do you ever get tired of being wrong about everything? Maybe just have a day off once in a while - you’ll feel much better. Well, the public will, anyway.

Fascism did not begin or end with Hitler. Authoritarianism does not begin or end with the last person who was an authoritarian. Donald aspires to authoritarianism and is on his way to fascism. Wake up.
-
Really, oh wise one. You know perfectly well what & who Khan is referring to. It’s an absurd comparison and it’s absurd that you are defending it. Do go and bother someone else now.
-
Sorry. I disagree. 20th century fascism is on the rise. Shut your eyes to it at your peril.
-
Emma, sweetheart, it’s in your DNA to disagree with everything I say or write. If I said it was Sunday, you’d disagree with that too. Why you think I’m interested in your opinions, heaven knows. I don’t follow you for a reason.
-
I rather suspect you’re not interested in anyone’s opinions. You used to be civil once. Not any more.
-
I’m interested in lots of people’s opinion, Emma, including those of people who disagree with me. I am always happy to learn and to change my opinions when new facts emerge but, based on your tweets to me, you don’t have much to offer on that front. Sorry if that offends you.
-
Doesn’t offend me at all. I find it intriguing that you seem to be in deep denial about the current rise of the far right.

Very slowly, so we're sure you've got it. Hitler was a fascist. Fascism is a political ideology. There have been many fascists. Not every fascist needs to act as Hitler to be a fascist. Fascism is a destructive, murderously ideology, even without a figure like Hitler.
-
When he said “the fascists of the 20th century”, do you think he meant to include Hitler or not? If not, perhaps he would have specified that. He didn’t. The comparison with Trump is ridiculous and insulting to victims of Nazism. Is that simple enough for you to understand?
-
If he specifically meant Hitler, Mr Khan would have specifically identified Hitler. Unfortunately, fascism manifested as a ruling power in Italy, Chile, Austria, Hungary and Spain, among others at different times, completely independent of Nazism. Each had a horrific impact.
-
He meant all of them, including Hitler. And yes, I studied the rise of 20th century fascism and am well aware that there was more than one 20thC fascist. Do you assume everyone is thick or just me?
-
I was merely applying Occam's Razor. So, having eliminated ignorance as the motivating factor for your outburst, we move on to malice. Instead of intentionally skewing his words, why not address the substance of the remark - the parallels he notices?
-
So I’m malicious now. Okaaaay. Maybe people could just criticise Trump for what he does and says, and what he stands for, without the need to lazily compare him with 20thC fascists. This is the sort of stupid rhetoric that is going to result in him being elected again.
-
Well, to be honest, you've given enough cause for some to think that... If the bloke repeats the same rhetoric as past fascist leaders - right down to variations of the same slogans, why shouldn't people be able to point that out? He's not immune from comparison!
-
Mike, you have the patience of a saint for trying to educate the Waitrose Katie Hopkins. She doesn't argue in good faith. Her cognitive dissonance was evident from the first post..
