Entirely right. A royal college invitation to speak carries great prestige. To see @rcgp extending this to someone who states she sees nothing wrong with Enoch Powell’s Rivers of Blood speech was flabbergasting.https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/may/31/royal-college-of-gps-cancels-julia-hartley-brewer-invitation?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other …

THREAD/ I note that @JuliaHB1 has now responded to her "no-plaforming" by RCGP on one of her (many) platforms - in this case, The Spectator - by attacking the doctor starting the petition against her invitation as a "fanatical Remain campaigner". (1/8)

She implies that somehow doctors’ opposition against RCGP’s invitation is merely concocted outrage masking their real beef - that she supports Brexit. (2/8)

Memo to Julia. Brexit is not the issue here. Nor is your one tweet about Rivers of Blood alone. It’s the attitude that leads you to write (repeatedly) comments like: "This obsession with “identity” and “diversity” is just a different kind of racism.” (3/8)

You are perceived by many doctors to be part of this toxic, anti-immigrant narrative. Not for one tweet, but for a long track record of comments and insinuations. And that’s why we believe you had no place whatsoever being feted by a medical royal college. (8/8)

On balance, I'd certainly rather be too sensitive to the possibility of racism than one who is unable to see anything wrong with Powell's Rivers of Blood speech.

I most certainly did. I just didn't buy your post-hoc defence of that infamously click-baity tweet of yrs. If you now admit that "certainly some of [Powell's] language about ethnic minority immigrants was nasty" then why, at the time, did you see *nothing* wrong in the speech?

It’s only a wild guess, but I wonder if her startling lack of mortification & humility is because she’s a soulless, bitter & curdled sociopath, incapable of transmitting or receiving empathy, kindness or love? Just a guess, mind. 😉

What does that mean? ‘Read racism into everything’? Is this your old trick saying that people don’t understand you whilst they really do understand what you actually meant? Or is it that we don’t get your humour, that we have the wrong kind of humour? Archeology, indeed.
