A national ID card would save so many problems.

But cause so many more.
-
no they wouldn't - no country in Europe has problems caused by national ID cards.
-
It’s naive to think it could be introduced here without resistance.
-
Why resist a sensible suggestion. Name one logical reason why we shouldn't have ID cards?
-
People won’t want to carry one.
-
And that its a logical reason? They will if they want to vote, or access benefits or healthcare or banks or any public service.
-
The way you put it is just going to get people’s backs up.

How many people have been refused admission to Labour Party selection meetings because they could not produce two different items of ID. It also requires two items of ID to join the Labour Party.

When it comes to defending the rights of people who don’t exist, those who want to cast more than one vote and those who want to impersonate others when voting, you can be sure that Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party will do so

In the last general election students on TV openly admitted to voting twice for Corbyn. Once where they lived originally & again where they were studying. This was never investigated.

A good friend of mine was a poll clerk at the recent council elections in MK. Nearly all European nationals (non UK) showed ID without asking as its normal. So should we. Otherwise all we need is an address and we can Identify as we want.

Depends if they are not properly advised in advance & what is evidence of ID? At 87 years old or any age, do you know where your birth certificate is, do you have a passport, do you have a utility bill in your name? If none of the above, what else is required?
-
My area had a trial of this . Instead of a voting card, we were sent a letter with a list of acceptable forms of ID (there were 10 acceptable types). If you didn't have an ID then you could apply for one for free - from 2 months before the election.
-
For the free ID the 87 year old would need a passport photo, pension statement/council tax statement/bill etc or reference from someone of standing in the community ie GP.
