No, you shouldn’t. No one should be banned from standing for elected office - even horrible people who say horrible things. It’s up to voters not to vote for those people. It’s this little thing we’ve come up with that we like to call “democracy”.https://twitter.com/VictoriaLIVE/status/1125691993139470336 …

‘If you promote rape you should have a lifetime ban from standing for elected office,’ @jessphillips She says there is a link between such language and actual violence. Police are investigating UKIP candidate Carl Benjamin after saying ‘he might rape’ the MP. pic.twitter.com/UkPLh5aB5u

I mean he has just threatened an elected official. There should be some high bars to get dismissed from the ballot but I think that should be one of them

If he has committed an offence, he should be arrested. But if he is not behind bars, he should be allowed to stand for election.

He has threatened an elected official. He is the unacceptable face of the right that has been given a voice by Brexit

I can see where you’re coming from but I do disagree with you on this one Julia- That is quite dangerous and massively inappropriate and criminal offences/ hate crimes can’t go un-noticed. I don’t like Jess Phillips but she shouldn’t have to put up with this from a MEP candidate.

I didn’t say it wasn’t. And I didn’t say she should. He’s a nasty piece of work and if he said the same about me, I’d pay him a personal visit. I’m saying if he has broken the law, arrest him. But he should still be entitled to stand for election.

She did. Quite plainly. It was given a pass. And yet there was all that screeching and attempts to misconstrue something innocuous Farage said - which took a great stretch of the imagination. Jess is arrogant and unprincipled.
