I drive a van from necessity not choice. It's diesel because there is no other option. It cost £16K 5 years ago. Next year one manufacturer will offer an electric van of the same size. It will cost £60k so it's not an option. What choice does that leave me and other trades?

SHITE. Bought my electric van for £16k. Never heard of one costing £60k. Government currently offering a 20% discount on all electric vehicles and have been since 2012.
-
I'm talking about a van, not a noddy car. The price is here, so perhaps you'd be better off spending some time reading instead of talking bollocks?https://www.drivingelectric.com/renault/master/691/new-renault-master-ze-electric-van-prices-specs-and-release-date …

CO2 emissions linked to the production of batteries - in which coal still plays an important role - are taken into consideration, electric vehicles emit 11% to 28% more than their diesel counterparts, according to the study, presented on Wednesday at the IFO Institute in Munich.
-

dont be saying that mate, the swampies seem to think that batteries come from unicorn land, and contain no harmful resident chemicals such as lithium, hydrogen, etc plus a load of special plastics to contain the lot

-
Let us not forget that due to the unique dispersal of chemicals, metals etc, across the globe it gives electric vehicles the largest manufacturing carbon footprint in the world. On the back foot before factoring in electricity generation?
-
Let’s not forget this proves you have no idea what you are talking about.
-
Look it up! No

-
I did. All discredited sources.
-
Ok mate! I believe you?

Those new electric cars use more CO2 than petrol cars unless you keep them on the same battery and run them for at least 6 years without changing them for a new car. Even in the US its 1.7 years compared to their big petrol V8s. Its all eco nonsense.
-
And where are the poison batteries gonna be stored

-
Yep, toxic metals. Heavy mining. Not at all clear about recycling. Bit like vegans and the golden child wanting all meat and flights heavily taxed while telling us to eat imported vegan food (flown in) Most of it is political nonsense.

Forget electric cars Ed. I am one of many that will be voting against you in Doncaster North.

You’d think that as co-chair of a climate change commission AND a car owner, he’d have a view on utilising electric cars and whether he should be driving one or not? Seems he has given it no thought whatsoever.
-
Have you thought of getting one? Are you interested in climate change? First of all we need to get things sorted, this is his point,, that would naturally include more places to charge electric cars, and making it easier to use one so more of us would buy them.
-
No, I will not be getting one. I don’t run a car. I use public transport. I care deeply about the planet. I was an eco warrior in the 1960’s; in those days I was thought to be odd (as was Prince Charles). My point is that Miliband is probably a fake.
