Er, hunger and poverty *are* being ended. Before capitalism, 90% of the world’s population lived in extreme poverty. Today, fewer than 10% do. And much of that fall has happened in the past 30 years.https://twitter.com/patrickjbutler/status/1118916153236180994 …

But why do we need food banks in our "rich" country?... not trying to be argumentative, I respect your opinions but is that money well spent?... maybe I'm missing the point.

Technically a food bank is part of a 'big society'. Very few people need a food bank, but what people choose to spend their money on has changed. When a phone or TV is considered a right and not a luxury it skews things. Londoners however are fkd!

Ending poverty is not something you can throw money at! The rich pay 60% of tax for us and the NHS. Could they pay more? Maybe, but they could just move and not pay taxes here. It's a gov issue that has lots of causes!

Totally correct, it's a governmental issue and a social issue but if you and your loved ones were starving, would you be happy to witness millions spent on a derelict building?

No, but nobody is starving! We don't have real poverty in this country, so lefties created 'relative poverty' which is how much poorer have compared to richer. Which means unless we turn communist, we can get solve 'poverty'!

Yesterday I was at my local food bank dropping off a case off tinned fruit that we didnt need. As usual you have some really needy people but you also have people smoking incessantly while yacking on mobile phones. There is real poverty but there is also a of a lot wasters there.
