Scariest part of today was witnessing @JuliaHB1 take clear, concise information about inclusive kids books - backed by TWO reports w/ statistics - and turn it into a hate-filled lie to a huge audience. Then watch as it was shared and amplified into even more hate thrown at us.https://twitter.com/JuliaHB1/status/1118490375168118784 …

Author Sharna Jackson complains that “white characters are the default in children’s books”. In Britain, yes. But that is not the case in books in Nigeria or Somalia or India or Bangladesh. Hmmmm, now can anyone think of a reason why that might be...? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-47883118 …

There wasn’t anything remotely hateful or untrue in my tweet. You’re just making this stuff up. Quite bizarre. My tweet was a perfectly reasonable point about demographics. If you think that’s hateful then you must find daily life bloody impossible to cope with.

The lie comes in stating that the default isn’t white in the majority of kids books in other countries (it is) The entire reply is hateful ... why redirect a celebration of growing representation in inclusive U.K. kids books otherwise? Nothing made up. (But bizarre, sure)

Don’t you understand that such silly statements bred resentment... her response may have been incorrect.. (I would be surprised if books in Nigeria didn’t have black characters and if they didn’t that would be strange) but there was no hate in her response.

Roll your eyes as much as you like... my point was you are saying she is lying and her tweet was hateful.. (that was in your response), I suggested that she may have been incorrect but there was nothing hateful in what she said

Knowingly misrepresenting the facts to fit an agenda is malicious. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen JHB ignore all context and factual evidence just to draw attention to herself and unite gullible people behind her. Honestly, it’s kind of parasitic.

You could have learned something today regarding publishing challenges, no rep in literature in even majority POC schools and lived experiences of our citizens but you chose to brush it off as 'just complaining' and even called people stupid with your platform. Its exhausting.
