Er, didn’t we bring in the tests precisely because teachers weren’t teaching? A huge number of children under-achieve while many leave school with no qualifications. No other profession has such a high failure rate. Maybe that’s why they don’t want their pupils tested...https://twitter.com/jeremycorbyn/status/1118190506889052167 …

What an insulting light-weight controversialist you have crafted yourself into, for personal gain.

On the evidence of your tweets, journalists' failure rate is much higher than teachers' - unless you don't call journalism a 'profession'. That's only a start. You remain a light-weight controversialist.

Journalism isn’t a profession. It has no entry requirement. Teaching is. The requirement for too many years was too low hence the large number of poor teachers and the high failure rate.

No one knows more than Julia about education, insect populations, the haulage industry, non tarrif barriers to trade and the motor industry. The only thing she doesn't seem to yet know is her growing resemblance to Trump.

The tests were brought in to help raise standards in literacy & numeracy. It worked for a while. But aligning the tests to competitive league tables made them deeply unreliable, leading to narrow teaching, rote-learning and cheating. Assessment is essential. Overtesting is not.

Teachers now get assessed so there is no need to assess young children with arbitrary tests. Learning is supposed to be fun, not an ordeal.
