Fact. There are plenty of insects. Pollenation is happenng. There are plenty of crops. There is more food on this planet than ever before. Fewer people are going hungry than ever before. Act now. And carry on as we are because it’s working REALLY well. Fact. #ExtinctionRebellionhttps://twitter.com/MrMatthewTodd/status/1117795694549655554 …

*sigh😔 OK Julia, here goes. Given that, for example, there's been an approximate 75% decline in flying insects in German nature reserves since 1990...how would you define "plenty" in this context? PS About 2/3rd of global food crops are wind/self pollinated.

That study is genuinely laughable. A bunch of amateurs putting dead insects in sacks and weighing them? And we should all panic because of that? Good grief, man.

Anyone who has driven a car in the countryside for the last 20 years will have noticed the decline in insects by the decreased number of dead ones on their windscreen and front number plate

Not very scientific but nevertheless a very good observation, I’ve noticed that, particularly in crop bearing areas such as Lincolnshire and Norfolk 👏🏻

It has been noticeable here in Shropshire for years. I often drive at night in rural areas. When my children were little in the 90s, cleaning moths off the headlights was commonplace. I no longer have to do it. Perhaps bugs have become smarter. Julia! A moth has got your IQ!

1 Okey dokey, here's a meta analysis, compiling data from 73 papers https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0006320718313636 … 2 Strawmanning the methodology is just pathetic. What the data says, doesn't say & implies...we can have that discussion. 3 Who said panic? 4 Still waiting 4 ur definition of "plenty"

I take it, @JuliaHB1, that the irony of YOU being critical of experimental methodology (without any detail btw, simply dismissing your strawman) by labelling them "amatuers" was lost on you?

The point is Julia whether these commenters are right or wrong they are looking to experts in their fields (there's a pun there if you want it), expert studies, empirical evidence, demonstrable fact based on solid verifiable data, rather than you know, you.

Sooooo...everyone should look at facts, but just as long as they’re your facts, because the other facts that you don’t like, are no good? Tell me, why would insect ecologists make this up? Are you going to tell me they’re all shills for ‘Big Insecta’ now?
