@OldhamCouncil have decided councillors can be exempt from paying council tax as well. It must be hard for them, poor little lambs!

So those setting the tax are immune from it. Brilliant.

NOBODY working for ANY council should be on more than 35k

This is a disgrace and also one of the reasons why brexit has been thwarted. Too many vested interests.
-
The council in leeds has an interest in the EU? What is the connection?

If only the private sector were subject to this level of scrutiny.

Not one of these people should be on £100k plus. Same with school headteachers on 6 figure salaries, as if they're the heads of FTSE companies. No wonder there's no money in local govt coffers. It's all in the bank accounts of the senior staff.

Council executive & director pay is obscene. Don't forget there are thousands of councillors too who get paid to attend meetings, chair committees and thousands in expenses, many of whom never even show up, only surfacing for re-election. Plus parish councillors too. Gravy train!
-
Speaking as a Parish Vice-Chair, I get neither pay nor expenses.
-
Though I agree completely with council executive pay - this is a good reason to take part in the local elections!
-
Or just scrap councillors all together, especially parish which have no power are just a beureucratic waste of space, no offence. Have a 2nd/deputy MP who replaces the council, has budget authority and replace executive director level at all councils. Save millions, and elected.
-
At my last meeting, we arranged the refurbishment of a children's playground. At this meeting, we're getting a farmer's market organized. Parish Councils can do a lot - believe me! Ever sat on one?
-
I work for a council. Monitoring officer. And no offence but that stuff is tinkering and could easily be replaced with council ED departments given budget control and a single MP holding final responsibility for local improvements/investments. Don't need 50people to give the nod.
-
Fifty people? We've got fifteen - and none of us are paid, none of us get expenses. You think one MP could see to the needs of thirty thousand people? We have a hard enough time getting the council to listen to us now. We're keeping the public toilets open... 1/2
-
...we run the street lighting, we support a host of local volunteer groups, maintain the graveyards...nobody else is doing that. Tell the kids in the playground we saved last month that they aren't important. The council doesn't lift a finger round here. 2/2

Some council Chief Execs paid more than half a million a year. Beggars belief.
