The amount of money and benefits an MEP gets for essentially just turning up and rubber-stamping commission legislation? It's not bizarre at all that an MEP would want to stay. x

Leave sure, but don’t expect to have all the benefits of being a member of said club.
-
Fine with me
-
I’m sure it is, you aren’t likely to be affected.
-
Well I would be affected and would vote to leave with no deal a thousand times if it meant us being free independent country again.
-
Benifits of the club, like EU army turning up because you used a mems, suffer job losses as we collectively sink in to decline.Having to have the failing Euro in our cashless society.Leading to hyper inflation. Your uniform speed regulated car (German/french only) Glorious!
-
Wow , a veritable herd of Unicorns! Apart from the speed regulated cars of course which we will be having whether we leave the E.U. or not because they are a very good idea. Speeding will one day be viewed the same as drink driving.
-
How you can refer to an EU Army as a unicon is beyond me. Lisbon caters for it EU leaders want it Franco/Germanic alliance starts it. And we see EU emblazoned armoured trucks on the streets of Paris set against it's own citizenry. Wake, up.

Maybe the "impossible dream" referred to is the expectation that we'd have MPs capable of finding their arses in the dark with a map and a torch? Sadly that was an unrealistic expectation.

Hang on, did you say "elected MEP"? So you DO know that we vote for MEPs and are rulemakers? So why then do you want to reduce the UK from rulemaker to ruletaker? And before you say "WTO", think about all those unelected bureaucrats who are making WTO rules we'll have to follow.
-
Do tell how MEP's can amend or introduce legislation. Name one single piece of the WTO framework that applies to domestic legislation and not solely to international trade outside of an existing framework such as an FTA
-
MEPs amend, approve or block EU legislation. As outlined on the EU website. WTO rules will apply to UK trade if we fail to negotiate a withdrawal agreement. I never mentioned domestic legislation - that's purely down to the UK Parliament.
-
Yes exactly WTO will only apply to trade outside of an agreement. Hence it is is a ridiculous comparison to make to the EU with regards to legislative power over the UK. MEP's can only amend in certain areas, others such as taxation they are merely consulted.
-
How is it "ridiculous" to point out that unelected WTO officials will tell us how we have to trade? EU Commissioners (who are appointed by their respective ELECTED goverments) suggest laws, which are then amended / approved / vetoed by MEPs, incldg 73 MEPs representing the UK.
-
Because you are implying that the WTO would have similar level of control over UK domestic legislation, which is patently ridiculous In that case you would be happy with the Lords being solely capable of proposing legislation. With the house of commons being the amending chamber
-
Which bits of "domestic legislation" over which we cede competence to our collaborative body in the EU offend you so much? Employment protection? Climate protection? Environmental protection? Consumer rights? H&S protection? Safety of goods and foodstuffs? Energy consumption?

What a surprise, not one response.
