I fall on the free speech side of this difficult choice. Free speech is the freedom most under threat right now.

Internet is the least reliable way to learn about anything. We will always need editing, and editors.
-
I was a Senior Editor at HarperCollins and being not very good at any editorial work depended upon very good freelances to do the copy editing and proofreading, errors sometimes still got through alas. On Twitter, however, you get people not sure if WWI preceded WWII.
-
Editors, proof readers, copy editors and the rest of the gatekeepers have saved me from more public disgrace than I care to think about. Lang may their lums reek.
-
History has changed massively in quite recent times with the rise of social media. Some even live in a historical parallel universe despite massive contrary evidence to their fantasy world.

There was a good discussion on this the other night on Sky. If anything, it made me less sure though, that it's a good thing.https://twitter.com/uk_rants/status/1114307698751877120 …

Corbyn comes to power because May is completely useless. He amends this law quietly to stop criticism of the government because it could cause upset to those that rely on government services? The only place for this, is the bin. These are not Tories.
-
We saw local councils not long ago, using anti-terrorism laws to spy on which school parents were sending their kids to & where they actually lived. We simply cannot trust them to behave properly.

This is how I feel as well. My concerns are not just with who decides what is harmful now, but who will decide this in the future? Will they still have generally benevolent intentions, or will it be some kind of dictatorship. We need to tread carefully here as a society.

There are many tools for filtering and blocking that you can choose to use, you can install, and that can keep track of your childrens internet use. Do you want to be responsible for helping her learn to navigate the internet or trust the government to do it for you?

It's a thin end of the wedge. It's parents responsibility to raise their children to understand the world around them, & teach them to protect themselves.. Ronald Reagan said 'The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help'

If people want to find websites, they will. This will just make the dark web more popular. Lots in life carries risk. Education is the key.

Oh this is censorship, just like how the BBC is not reporting on the
#GiletsJaunes in France & Holland. They know on the internet they can not hide their misdeeds, lies and treachery.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

We already have censorship, MSM censors South Africa farm attacks, yellow vest demos in France, all the news is trimmed to the minimum anyway, if they can monitor and take an ordinary person's twitter account down for a minor infringement they can monitor porn and grooming sites.
