Hey Julia, respectfully disagree with Vernon (who is brilliant) on this one. A constitutional crisis is when there aren’t any constitutional mechanisms to deal with a political crisis, ie the constitution is part of the problem. As my tweet tries to say, that isn’t the case here.

It's also a constitutional crisis because the UK's shambolic pseudo-constitution is shown up as wholly inadequate to provide controls over a renegade Prime Minister.https://twitter.com/lewis_goodall/status/1108749999565914115 …

Our constitution does provide controls. Parliament has simply not used them yet. A vote of no confidence and a new govt could be set within a few days.

Theresa May is close to handing over complete legal control of the UK to the EU, in a Treaty that we can't get out of, against the will of the people as expressed in a referendum and General Election. If
@lewis_goodall doesn't think that's a constitutional crisis then what is? - 1 more reply

There isn't a constitutional crisis. Any 'crisis' here is wholly political. It comes down to a lack of agreement. There's a couple of hundred MP's who will do everything they can to avoid a WTO no deal. Were they behind a WTO Brexit, there would be no issue.

No, sorry Julia, the "experts" quote was remainers not able to quote something in context (despite being the galaxy brain great one's who are so much more intelligent than us that they should run all our lives...)

I always thought a constitutional crisis was when you're egg-bound.

quite clearly a political one. The pathway out is through a general election / another referendum. People might not want them, fair enough, but the constitution does provide ways out

Or revoke article 50. Gone in an instant. What a relief that would be.

Some pundits say it's the worst consitutional crisis ever. Tell that to King Charles I.

Funny how people pick and choose the importance of experts depending how it suits their narrative?

The crisis is that so many people don't see their remoaning and revolutionary actions as treasonous. I didnt realise the NeoLibs had got such a strong hold on vulnerable minds.

Very pleased to see you appreciate the words of this constitutional expert, Julia. In that case, you'll surely be happy to agree with Prof Bogdanor where he also says "a further referendum is the only democratic solution"??
