And here’s the problem. If you’re white, you’re not allowed to say anything on this issue. I understand the difference between the two phrases and absolutely get that one is offensive. The point is whether someone using the word “coloured” INTENDED offence or not. She didn’t.https://twitter.com/CharleneWhite/status/1103716232426078208 …

It's amazing how many so-called educated folk struggle to understand the difference between "coloured" & "person of colour". Sorry... I mean non-black so-called educated folk who persist in telling black folk they shouldn't be offended. This isn't your convo. Take a seat.

Genuine question, when did it become unacceptable to use the term Coloured? When I was a kid it was the accepted and indeed at the time correct term to use to not offend, or so I thought. It’s getting hard to say the right thing and not offend anyone anymore. I don’t wish to.

Indeed, I remember being told not to say black and to say coloured instead. Come to think of it, I use both now.

Exactly it was frowned upon to say black. Even my teachers used coloured. I want to use the acceptable term & I don’t want to offend anyone but it would be nice if these things were made public as to when and why terms are changing for those of us that don’t know/understand why?

The thing that mortifies me the most is thinking I’ve been using the right term, but actually have offended someone unintentionally. No one has said anything to me and I have many friends of colour.

I work in an industry with many different nationalities and have used both terms. Not once has anybody taken offence or even commented on either word.

All this faux offence is a diversion tactic. Keep them talking about some irrelevance and they won’t be talking about what absolutely useless politicians they have. About #Brexit About a 17 year old girl being slaughtered in a park! About anything important. #PurpleRibbonDay ☹️

And Diane had the opportunity to gain some respect by saying ‘innocent mistake, no offence taken’. But there was no chance of that

Nobody on twitter today actually IS explaining why "coloured" is offensive but "person of colour" isn't. People have asked, and the replies seem to be 'you should know'

Don’t worry - it will be deemed offensive a week after you’ve got used to saying it. It’s to trip us up and find racism where none exists.

Not me, Paul. I've been called all those things yet I'm none! I know it & that's all that matters to me. Folk can judge for themselves. But I'll never stay silent not when I can see injustice taking place? Those who do, need to take a long look in a mirror?
