Book Trust gives away bags of books to every child. Free at libraries and almost free at charity shops. This is a tale about lazy parenting not the cost of books.

Its not a left or right thing, its actual common sense. It has never been difficult to understand!!! Improve Education, Improve Child Services Improve Youth Services Lower Poverty And ALL crime will fall. Which will save far more money for the country in the long run.

I'm all for improved parenting but sometimes there are parents who just aren't very good at it. So why should innocent children suffer? If we are just doing things that benefit us as individuals then what happens to our society?

Child poverty is at its highest for decades, foodbank usage has exploded in the past 7 years so if welfare provides innocent children with a decent education and food then of course it does.

You are so out of touch. Public service cuts have led to a lot of libraries shutting down.

Good. It’s 2019. If you need to know something look on the internet. I doubt most people have been in a library in the last 10 years, yet as usual, the poor taxpayer is paying for a few outliers whinging about ‘services’. Who says the government should provide free books?

Plus charity shops sell books for £0.20. Every decent parent can find the books if they want to. (And yes, children have all expensive gadgets, easy to download a book).

Truly the elephant in the room. We skirt around hundreds of these horrific issues afflicting modern British society - most of them come down to shoddy parenting. Why are so many people having children who are clearly unsuited to parenting?

Charity shops sell top children’s books very cheaply. Children need to see their parents reading books. Get off your phones and set a good example.

The parents spend their days staring at their mobiles instead of sitting down and reading to their children. Most books can be purchased these days for pennies. Fecless single mums have no idea!

My childhood trips to our local library were a real treat, and I can remember the book-y smell of the place 40+ years since I was last there. Mum made dad take me in there while she did her grocery shopping, we were all happy with that.
