Poor you. You can't apply being the daughter of a GP and having attended Magdalen College (according to Wikipedia one of the wealthiest constituent colleges of the University of Oxford, with an estimated financial endowment of £180.8 million as of 2014)
-
My mother was a trainee doctor for much of my childhood and became a GP when I was 18. I went to a comp and got into Oxford because I was clever enough. Not sure why that’s got anything to do with whether anyone should get a job at the BBC though...

Julia, you're in England - the place where success has become a dirty word.

Yes, but... I had a cr@p start in life (very), but I did OK - worked physically very, very hard, put myself through university (only one in family ever to do so), climbed greasy corporate pole, retired early (FIRE). If I can do it anyone can. I admire success. No time for haters.

And that is also true.

I am shocked though I shouldn't be considering it's the BBC. Equality for all.......except if you're white or have a bit more money than others

No, it’s not equality. The applications should be open to all.

And given that we are forced to pay their wages, I'd rather the job went to the best qualified applicant, irrespective of anything else.

As far as I'm concerned the BBC is forfeited any form of loyalty whatsoever. The BBC I grew up with is long dead and gone and the sooner this manifestation does the same the better.

Yes I agree. I listen to R3 a lot but you can still hear in the background the wheels of diversity and inclusion grinding on

It is most distracting. I'm amazed they play any Brahms or Mahler at all.

Racism pure and simple. And who decides what 'lower socio-economic background' means? How low? Middle-class, lower-middle class? Living in a caravan? I'd love to be the interviewer: do you have a outside lav? do you own a whippet? Milk in first or last? What a joke!

*replace Whippet with Pitbull
