From wider reading, I think the aim is to tackle this from angle that educates young girls on right/wrong, feeling empowered enough to speak out when they are potentially being abused or violated and red flags or signs to look out for. I don’t think they cover “A History Of...”

And roughly how many girls in this country do you think are at risk of FGM? This is a practice carried out in a small number of communities. It is THEY who need to be educated, not every child in this country.
-
Ever heard of public awareness? By raising knowledge of FGM to all communities you're increasing the likelihood of it reaching the community who needs it most.
-
Nonsense. This abuse requires targeted education and warnings to the people who actually do this. A small minority.
-
It’s patently not nonsense. The more people are informed about something the more they will talk about it. The more they talk about it, the more people will hear. It’s kind of common sense. You may not want your daughter to hear about it but that doesn’t make his point “nonsense”
-
No it patently is nonsense because in tteaching everyone about it in this manner, as if more than a few are ever likely to encounter it, it's an attempt to dilute responsibility rather than be seen to target exactly whom they ought to be targeting.
-
If I tell all children in the classroom that they need to go to a certain room when the tornado siren wails I'm not diluting responsibility, I'm increasing the likelihood that the correct action will be taken and lives will be saved. Same thing goes for fgm convos.
-
Nah. A tornado is indiscriminate. FGM doesn't just happen to people. It's targeted. A Christian or secular humanist girl born to an indigenous British family is extremely unlikely to be at risk of someone mutilating her vulva clitoris.

You think it’s impossible to find a way explain adult behaviour to children? Esp. information that could save them from abuse.
-
You think my daughter and her friends are at risk of FGM? Really?
-
If I had a son or a daughter I would want them armed with enough information to keep them safe. Its not unreasonable to talk about it.
-
The indigenous population of this country have not been in the habit of performing FGM on their children.

Oh, I am horrified by circumcision too. Have spoken about it on air. Barbaric practice.

Stigmatising or stereotyping? When did FGM become a big issue in the country and why? Did it magically appear out of nowhere? You can’t tackle FGM without facing up to the realities of the barbaric ideologies (yes, there are more than one) that promote it.

Surely 'the issue' is what inappropriate issues we're importing and having to educate our children about. Next up: "How to tell your child why there are heads in their bins and that it's ok to feel afraid sometimes".
