    Julia Hartley-Brewer Retweeted Giles Fraser

I’m a bit late to this but the huge backlash to this article by @giles_fraser is just bizarre. Nothing whatsoever in this excellent piece that could upset anyone remotely sane. If you were angry about it, you need to seek help.https://twitter.com/giles_fraser/status/1098896087425912832 …

The open, sneery contempt at the idea of social mobility, the use of the phrase "rootless ronins" to describe people who dare to seek a better life. Cool value system you both have.

As did mine, she passed away 2 months ago. As she had no daughters I moved her 100 odd miles to the city in which I have lived for the best part of 30 years, into a private care home. I guess my wife should have looked after her but she also had a job & 2 kids to take care of.

It would be lovely if people that wanted to could stay in their hometowns. It's very rarely that easy though. Geographical mobility is an almost ubiquitous assumption of recruiters. I constantly get shocked reactions for declining positions requiring me to move...

Even with a job relatively local to family, care itself is a full time job that cannot simply be fit around paid employment. It is now all but impossible for anyone to take time out of paid work to care. Even for their kids, never mind elderly relatives.

I'm not talking about a few wks but yrs. For starters there's massive tax inequality on single-earner families compared to 2 earners earning the same. Then there's the loss of child benefit at 50-60k for se families when 2e families keep it up to 100k. Totally unfair!

Its anecdotal, no evidence nothing to do with Brexit/remain/leave Of course care of elderly is a priority I have seen neglect/abuse of elderly by families in attendance, by care workers of all creeds/races Also excellent care by families and care workers of all creeds/races
