Oh look. Why Honda is set to shut its Swindon factory - written by people who actually *know* about the car industry. Spoiler alert: they make diesel cars at that factory & no one wants to buy them anymore.https://www.autocar.co.uk/opinion/industry/opinion-why-honda-set-shut-its-swindon-factory …

The article that says Brexit uncertainty is undoubtedly a factor in their decision. That article?

I’ve read the article. The opening question, on whether Brexit has an impact on the decision, “almost certainly“ is the answer. Diesel only constitutes a small part of manufacturing. This is a better explanationhttps://twitter.com/femi_sorry/status/1097548493491720195?s=21 …

The Japan-EU Free Trade Deal has muddied the debate. Put simply: if we leave the EU's free trade area, then a decision to move a factory from the UK to Japan is a decision which keeps that factory in the EU's free trade area. E.g. Nissan, Honda (Also Dyson's moved to Singapore)

No it isn’t... the Swindon plant has already dropped all diesel civics, announced 350 temporary staff will go as a result and still build 570 a day, all petrol. So diesels got fuck all to do with it

They no longer build diesels as they are global hub for civic and no longer build crv. Up to recently they were building 790 cars per day. Only 120 were diesels , and only built for 9 mths to meet demands. A large chunk of 790 for usa. Ive worked there 14yrs. So well informed.

Honda, like many others, does NOT yet have a viable, lower cost, affordable to the masses battery/ electric car to significant make up for the immediate &!ANTICIPATED future drop in Diesel (internal combustion) engine cars. Used battery cars need new batteries & are unviable!

Indeed. And you may know less that you think. Brexit has not helped a difficult position for Honda or the industry and makes it easier to go from the U.K. Our looming isolation from the world and our emerging role as Europe’s comedy parliament will not be helping.....

From the article. “Japan recently agreed a trade deal that effectively removes tariffs on Japanese-built cars imported into Europe.” Which would have included the UK. It won’t now. The company also stated Brexit as an issue.

You clearly didn't read the article properly. It states there's many factors, diesel being 1 yes, but also brexit, America, etc. So your entire tweet is to be frank at best bias at worse completely incorrect.
