The @thetimes story about Shamima Begum is a brilliant scoop. My very first reaction was punitive. My second was one of deep sadness. She was 15 when she was seduced into IS. At 19 she has seen two children die. She's British and we must try and rehabilitate her.

We should indeed try to rehabilitate her - while she is behind bars.

The "brilliant scoop" of the Times has made this young woman a political football, prevented any chance of a considered decision and used her future as a stunt. Is that really great journalism?

She doesn't regret her actions and is actually disappointed that she deserted the group. Someone with that lack of remorse is extremely dangerous.

By taking someone like Begum back we send out a very clear message that we are a far more mature, intelligent and considered society than anything IS or similar groups have to offer. Put simply, it makes us look better than them.

Yeah really. We win the ideological war by consistently being better. That won’t happen of course because that’s not the way the vast majority of people think.

We also win by obliterating ISIS in the battle field and showing that it's not a Caliphate anointed and decreed by Allah to rule over the world.

Which battlefield? The battlefield at the Charlie Hebdo Office’s in Paris? The battlefield at the MEN? The battlefield on Westminster Bridge? The problem with fighting an ideology is that there aren’t clearly defined battlefields.

They murdered a child and were found guilty in an English court. This girl was groomed? Brain washed? Is daft? We have no evidence that she killed anyone, she was nothing more than a poke pot for some Dutch jihadi.

If anyone on here wants to stand by decisions that they made as a 15yr old child then have at it. Personally I would want to show her we are better than the death cult dickheads she thought would give her whatever she couldn't attain in the UK.

I'm not advocating she should not face any sort of censure. But rather that we as a country we are better than those she ran to. I'm not for getting a council house and hand outs, but if we don't learn from this we no nearer to solving the issue.

We hear alot from some quarters about the need to preserve this country's 'Christian values'. Forgiving one's enemies is a Christian value last I heard.
