Shamima Begum was a child when she left the UK. She was too young to legally renounce her citizenship. She should be brought home, and if accused, tried. She was radicalised in the UK: she is our responsibility. I don’t think it’s civilised to abandon her and her unborn child.

But the problem is that she is broken - she believes in IS. There is no point in letting her come back to scrounge off the state. If she came back she'd be like a cancer - infecting others. Let her stay in the country she loves and die there. Sad that she went, but its oneway.

But why do we want to incur the cost of her trial and (unlikely) imprisonment. We owe her nothing.
-
Pauline, if only good people had a right to a trial, in court, in front of a jury, we'd have a awful lot of lawyers sat around twiddling their thumbs.
-
Joe, maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad thing if it stops them defending the indefensible.

She didn’t “join” a terrorist organisation, she was a child radicalised into it. When non-Muslim girls exploited in the UK by Muslim men commit crimes, we’re happy to show empathy and understanding context. Guess not the same if you’re a Muslim girl who goes abroad...

Trial funded by taxpayers, prison funded by taxpayers, childcare funded by taxpayers. Security Services to watch her after release funded by taxpayers. Housing and welfare payments after release funded by taxpayers. I don't think so. Wonder if the USA wants her?
