Shamima Begum was a child when she left the UK. She was too young to legally renounce her citizenship. She should be brought home, and if accused, tried. She was radicalised in the UK: she is our responsibility. I don’t think it’s civilised to abandon her and her unborn child.

I agree. Except I’d send her to prison for 20 years once she got here

Absolutely no qualms with that. It sends out the wrong message not to. We mustn’t abandon our citizens to torture and death, but equally, we can’t allow them to escape British justice just because they flee.

She will get 10 years max, out in 5. She will be 24 having more babies and inevitably receiving benefits.

Where’s your evidence? And even if it were the case, when she’s served her time, what makes her claiming child benefits worse than anyone else who does it?

Isn't the average of those convicted of going over to Syria about 5 years? In which case it's far too soft. 'Anyone else claiming benefits' won't have betrayed this country in the way that she did. Why should she ever be entitled to it's welfare again?!

You say that like 5 years of your life is a short amount. Besides, you don’t know if that is the correct average, nor if it’s what she’ll get.

Er, of course she should stand trial but she’s already admitted to the crime of joining and abetting a terrorist organisation! My issue is the sentence for such a crime would be too low. Oh, and it’s “you’re” not “your”. You’re welcome.

But the problem is that she is broken - she believes in IS. There is no point in letting her come back to scrounge off the state. If she came back she'd be like a cancer - infecting others. Let her stay in the country she loves and die there. Sad that she went, but its oneway.

And who's going to pay for all legal fees, court case, welfare of the child ecc?? Anyone who does what she did should be stripped of citizenship. End of.

This is not simply a case of an innocent person being accused , as she freely admits to what she did and shows no remorse whatsoever. Who exactly wants her back?

I sympathise with that - except that she is a British citizen and I feel sorry for the baby. So I'd hope she would go on trial here and then be given a hefty prison sentence. Her child would need to be fostered or adopted, unless non-terror supporting family could take over.

Then there’s the risk that she radicalises others once in prison? She’s shown zero remorse and that is the most poignant point in this whole story.
