Julia: "Nissan is not moving its production of an unwanted car to the UK because we don't want to buy them here. That's all there is to it. You can't blame Brexit for everything"

It was going to be the new version though, wasn't it? You can hardly claim SUVs aren't in demand, they're very popular.
-
It’s a petrol version that is very sluggish and nobody would want to buy it. Not everything is about Brexit.
-
The plans for Sunderland were to build the new version. I think you could believe, under the circumstances, that the new version would involve a better petrol model.
-
Apparently it was a 1.6 petrol version. Very sluggish and wouldn’t compete with other companies SUV’s. No real market for the model here anymore.
-
But the plans were to build the NEW version.
-
The petrol version was the alternative to the diesel I believe. I genuinely think this is a business decision. Brexit is far too easy an excuse to pass off rather than the reality of a failing model
-
I agree. It's not just brexit. If it was Nissan would have moved production to Spain, or via Renault to France. But dismissing it as a factor completely is wrong. It's a factor in a number of factors.
-
I don’t think anyone is doing that to be honest. I think it’s just far too easy for a company to blame everything on Brexit for any of their failings.

Didn't think you'd have time for modelling with a busy schedule!

Then why are they still going to be exporting it to Europe and making it elsewhere?
-
That'll be a handy trade deal between the EU and Japan perhaps?
-
Yes. Now just imagine if we could have one of those. . .
-
We can according to the Japanese PM
-
I'm not sure the Japanese PM is a key player in a future trade deal between the UK and the EU.

It was a reply to James,

Looking for any old excuse. Nissan was the darling of Brexiters two years ago. Now when Nissan says Brexit uncertainty is cancelling a project the Brexiters blame anything other than Brexit. What a collection of idiots. - 2 more replies
