Remoaners are going absolutely batshit crazy over this tweet by a Brexiteer Tory MP. The tweet is factually incorrect & it deserves to be called out. Now wouldn’t it be nice if Remoaners showed the same attention to facts when their own side tweeted their non-stop nonsense?https://twitter.com/DKShrewsbury/status/1091728290337959936 …

You are correct UK received a large amount of the budget but the rest which is mentioned is correct
-
They did however what’s missing is U.K. were paying heavily into defence whereas Germany didn’t which meant the Comtribution to Germany had the greater benefit to the economy. The German debt from US was largely cancelled out while the U.K. repaid their debt.

Yes but the rest was accurate-funny how the Remain side forget the rest.

Seriously? That was the brunt of it. And what is the point of simply stating total gross contributions without context? How much has Germany paid into the EU? France? Any idea?
-
Nowhere near to the amount of the UK. You seem vehement today? Are you ok?
-
German contributions to EU =c€20bn pa. 'not nearly as much'? I don't have a total to date amount but from this it is very unlikely to be much less than UKs?
-
The E.U is a France-Germanic concept So too right they should foot the lions share of the bill. Let us brush the cobwebs away and obtain CLEAR facts, shall we? https://www.statista.com/statistics/316691/european-union-eu-budget-share-of-contributions/ …

And what about the other countries Kris? Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg were among the 6 nations who founded the EU. Eg Per capita NL pays 2 to 3 times more than a U.K. citizen. U.K. ranks 8th or 9th out of 11 net paying countries) among net paying countries p/p.
-
U.K. is one of the top net contributors
-
The U.K. also has 65m citizens. Contribution to the EU budget is based on a % (<1) of the Griss National Income of a MS. So the larger the economy the larger the contribution. Of course the larger economies contribute more than the smaller ones, e.g. Malta, Finland, Cyprus etc.

Not only did the Marshall plan include the UK, the UK was the biggest recipient.

But Daniel is correct in other claims that Douglas Hurd waived Germany debt in 1993 during unification. Which does beg the question WHY?

Perhaps he meant Poland as they didn’t get any. He doesn’t specifically say the UK didn’t receive it? If had learnt that when he was in Poland it would be understandable. However, he should apologise for the error imo.
