Plot twist: they've said ‘Brexit isn’t helping companies like ours’http://news.sky.com/story/nissan-boss-confirms-sunderland-blow-brexit-not-helping-11626958 …

No, UNCERTAINTY over Brexit. Very different things.
-
hold on. If its merely uncertainty they would wait until the 29th
-
EXACTLY!
-
Actually they said the decision was for business reasons & added a statement about brexit “While we have taken this decision for business reasons, the continued uncertainty around the UK's future relationship with the EU is not helping companies like ours to plan for the future"

The X-Trail has NEVER been built outside Japan. It’s a diesel SUV, sales of which are plummeting all over the world, for ALL manufacturers. It’s a small volume model. In a shrinking market.
-
No new jobs were going to be created, if Nissan chose to make an ageing, deeply unfashionable model that no-one wants any more This announcement is akin to a recording company announcing that it has scrapped plans to release albums on cassette tape.

This was always going to happen regardless of Brexit. The EU's emission caps have done more harm to our car industry than anything else.
-
If it was always going to happen why was the opposite announced by Nissan in 2016 and it be claimed by Leavers at the time as a sign of future economic stability after Brexit?
-
Leave said it wouldn't happen and branded it project fear.pic.twitter.com/N8pslHrdSc

Strange the remainers never mention the grant the EU gave Ford to build the new Transit in Turkey in 2013, thus closing the Southampton site down causing job losses.

-
Not really coz it’s not true - Transits were being built in Turkey for 10 years before and it was a loan not a grant. Ford took the decision to close down Southampton before the loan.

BS. The new X-tail will come in petrol and hybrid versions. EU tariff on those built in Japan will be 0% under EU-Jap FTA but tariff on any built in UK would be 10% after Brexit. Denial won't help you. Project Reality is coming and it will hurt your family and everyone in the UK

I'm sure Julia will be safe in the comfort of her ivory tower. As long as her mortgage is paid, who cares about a few Northerners losing their jobs, right Julia?

The best take on this was in the Financial Times: Basically, the diesel engine they buy from Renault is struggling to hit emission targets. The petrol engine is built in Japan..so makes sense to produce it there. They have also announced no new diesel models from 2021 on.
-
They don't buy it, Renault own Nissan.
-
No they don't, Renault and Nissan have shares in each other but neither owns the other. They did form a manufacturing alliance while Carlos Ghosn was in charge, but he's currently under arrest for massive financial fraud. Nissan is very much a Japanese motor manufacturer.
-
As good as, they have 45% of their shares while Nissan have 15% of Renaults. That's why newer Nissan are shit, Renault engines in most of them. That's one reason they've kept x-trail production in Japan, engine barely meets eu emissions.
-
Agreed on the engine quality, though the Juke has a diesel Renault in it and wasn't that the one caught massively cheating on the emissions testing cycle? Along with the Cashcard and a few Renault engines! Not a great track record
