Biggest benefit, that if they annoy us we don’t elect them again. How many EU Presidents has Rifkind voted for? Bet he can’t wait to replace that old sop Juncker at the next election!

MPs “doing what they were instructed to do” is a far stretch from what I see, puerile ranting and arcane ramblings of the House today. Fewer than 10% of this shower would ever get near a boardroom role in the private sector, yet we look to them to determine our future

Of course it must seem terribly inefficient in Brussels, where real scrutiny is not welcomed or tolerated. I actually like the fact things get debated publicly. Just me?

Think the word you're struggling with Julia is 'advised' Parliament was never instructed. Advised by referendum, if you want it complete.

They are elected to run a complete country in the best possible way. Not cave in to Brexiteers who had a a clue what their vote would entail. And you're spoofing if you say you did know.

And I can’t understand why they all can’t just agree with ME on how best to deliver this because it’s quite obvious I’M right on everything and anybody who doesn’t agree with ME obviously hates democracy. All hail ME!

MPs are not bound by custom, law or the constitution to obey the ephemeral, shifting, and frequently contradictory instructions of the people. However delivered

Erm those MPs were elected 18 months ago and have a better mandate than a 2016 opinion poll!
-
There is one hole in that argument and that is that the Conservative and Labour candidates stood on a manifesto that promised to respect & implement the referendum result. They COULD have done that with EEA/EFTA but the Tsarina Theresa May will not have that. Not very good
-
One problem with that argument... Theresa May went into that election with a 20 point lead saying back me and get the Brexit she wanted and the great British public said NO!!!!
-
Yes she did but BOTH parties said they would respect the result. May lost her majority thanks to the 'presidential' nature of the campaign being all about her and Nick 'Rasputin' Timothy and the ill prepared and ill presented dementia 'tax'.
-
Indeed... but our fptp voting system limits voter choice... the public voted to stop Theresa May bulldozing her version of Brexit through parliament, that is what we are now seeing!!

And if we don't like what we see we can fire them.
