For the millionth time: The British sat they won’t build a hard border in N Ireland. The Irish say they won’t build a hard border in N Ireland. The European Commission say they won’t build a hard border in N Ireland. So who the hell is going to build this mythical border?

-
How will they compel the Irish to do so? A number of ways, substantial fines or imposing restrictions on Irish goods coming into the EU. If for example that famous chlorinate American chicken was found to have 'leaked' in the ROI they would block all their exports of chicken.
-
I for one would be happy for the UK to loan Ireland some money if the EU starts playing funny buggers. No need for us to spite them - if anything it would expose the EU for what it really is - controlling and manipulative.
-
If the UK as a state ever loans the RoI money ever again there'll be hell to pay...
-
Sure but I would rather we lead by example than try to squeeze them in time of hardship.
-
At this point they've made their bed tbh. It's not that I want to squeeze them, I'm just not interested in helping people who have made the threats that I've seen coming from that part of the world in the last few years. I'm disinterested in the RoI's plight is the issue.
-
I understand your sentiment but I prefer to believe the people of Ireland themselves don't want to be making these threats on the whole - it's just the pathetic government and a handful of rabid europhiles.

I believe the mechanisms by which such things are enforced are called “International Law” A concept that I am entirely unsurprised you’re unaware of.

As a member state, the EU can force the ROI to install a border.

I was only born and reared in Belfast. Smuggle and hustle all you want across the border. Makes no difference to me.

That's between ROI and EU. EU law insists there has to be a border between member and non member states to protect single market, but it would be up to EU if they want to try and enforce it. If Varadker tells them where to go, good effort. I don't care either way.

I'd be happy enough with that if you can make it happen.
