The good news is that it’s easier to get into medical schools in much of Europe than in the UK, with lower qualification requirements and no entry exam. But of course that doesn’t mean those doctors aren’t just as good as those trained here. Of *course* not...pic.twitter.com/wCaNIvrlDp

I got into medical school in Europe and I only went in to ask for directions. Anyone need surgery?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but grades required fir entry into a medical school doesn't equate with skills/knowledge acquired at medical school, or indeed in subsequent specialist training assessed by the @gmcuk as being acceptable here in UK.

Not as easy as you think. Yes - anyone with a decent final school exam such as the Bac in France can start Year 1 at Medical School. But there is a horrendous culling at the end of that year and only about the top 20% carry on.

Have you looked into the quality of doctors who qualify in the UK and in the EU and differences present at that stage? If not, you have not made any kind of point at all.

This is appalling I know the hard work, study, hours, stress it’s takes to become a highly trained Dr in 🇬🇧 we need to respect that & maintain our standards

This highlights a different problem; we aren’t training enough of our own doctors; it is absurdly difficult to win a place to study medicine; many highly capable kids don’t get in. Much harder than for my contemporaries (80s). Need more medicine places, fewer useless arts degrees

And you can catch the bus for £12 as Femi says. It’s only an 8 hour commute... each way.

Where does it say lower requirements @JuliaHB1? It says “don’t meet UK requirements”. I know it’s a hard concept to grasp, if something is different it’s not always bad. I can recommend some good English tutors if you need some brushing up? They’re Indian by the way...

Doctors trained outside the U.K. are upto 13 times more likely to be assessed by the GMC for poor practice.

"the number of doctors going through assessment procedures was small, Potts said. “For example Bangladesh has the highest rate of performance assessments, but that is only 23 doctors over a 17 year period.” - I think you'll be fine. 😂😂😂

Your missing the point...or should I say facts. 🤣🤣 Doctors from every other country other than S. Africa are more likely to be investigated due to poor practice than those from the U.K. I’m sure you can access google and look it up for yourself. 🙄

There’s more difference between individual doctors than between different medical schools’ standards. Some of the best doctors I worked with were trained in Russia, Iran, Spain. One of the worst: The Netherlands.

It is a bit childish to rubbish other countries institutions. Magdi Yacoub, the famous cardio-thoracic surgeon got his initial medical degree in Cairo.
