Yes. We should train our own young people to be doctors. We shouldn’t take doctors from poor countries who need them more. And the language barrier between doctor and patient is a legitimate concern. Oh, and my mum was a GP so I do know what training is required. Next.https://twitter.com/OFOCBrexit/status/1086947236192219136 …

Freedom of speech is not freedom from criticism. You'll probably find that the reason there aren't as many UK medical personnel is because people can't afford to go to university for 3 years let alone 5+. Gov't cuts to bursaries directly reducing the number of trainee nurses.pic.twitter.com/CL1OTHLS6h

And if you were a normal, working class person with the talent to be a doctor and then you see constant news reports of an NHS under pressure, GPs under constant strain, patients waiting in corridors etc would you really want to become a Doctor?
-
There's a good portion of New Grad doctors who emigrate to Australia or Europe just because working in the NHS, under current Conservative austerity measures, is deeply unattractive. Oh, and Brexit will only exacerbate this problem.
-
She doesn’t even give the doctors any respect ! Refers to them as labour
-
Being a doctor is a job. A job is labour. How is being a doctor not labour???
-
Erm 7 yrs of hard as hell training ! As opposed to say 2 yrs to be a plasterer . Both important but I think of manual as labour . She’s a sneering racist more to the point

I agree and with free speech comes consequences.

I really don't think her followers appreciate that the licence she's given to spout rubbish stems from the liberal values she and they decry.

Then your position must be that I can say anything I like to you. I think you are a disgusting excuse for a human being, you’re a bigot, ill informed and uneducated. The fact that you are paid to say the things you say on broadcast media is appalling.
-
You, a bloody second rate radio presenter on a second rate radio station, questioning the training of people who care for others without discrimination or prejudice is beyond ridiculous.

I’m with you Julia, since I now feel as though I’m living in a country where people dare not express an opinion incase it offends!! Slowly but surely our words are being silenced
-
You can express your opinion ... but why the surprise when people react to it or call it out? It’s ever been thus! Being offensive isn’t a new invention.

They'll try & get you sacked or have your social media accounts shut down, maybe send the Rainbow police to your door, threatening 'hate crime'. Can't risk exposing people to different opinions. Welcome to 1984.

You won’t be respected by decent people any more. There are training standards you have to meet to work for the NHS wherever you are from in the world, you didn’t mention language/poor country needs in your comments on the radio, you mentioned the quality re training.

Being blatantly xenephobic is morally unacceptable, hope that clears it up xo

It’s acceptable to me. It merely displays the sheer stupidity of your argument and opens up to possibilities of sound rebuttal. You talk about “training more doctors in the UK” like it requires the skill of a plumber/carpenter. It’s called capitalism. Don’t like it? Go to China.
-
As someone with experience of preparing A-level candidates for careers in medicine, I can assure you that the talent is there and, given more places at universities, we could train more than enough.
