Yes. We should train our own young people to be doctors. We shouldn’t take doctors from poor countries who need them more. And the language barrier between doctor and patient is a legitimate concern. Oh, and my mum was a GP so I do know what training is required. I’m particularly interested in the notion that my comments might be judged “acceptable” or “unacceptable”. Who gets to decide what I can and cannot say? And what happens to me if they’re judged “unacceptable”?

Freedom of speech is not freedom from criticism. You'll probably find that the reason there aren't as many UK medical personnel is because people can't afford to go to university for 3 years let alone 5+. Gov't cuts to bursaries directly reducing the number of trainee nurses.pic.twitter.com/CL1OTHLS6h

And if you were a normal, working class person with the talent to be a doctor and then you see constant news reports of an NHS under pressure, GPs under constant strain, patients waiting in corridors etc would you really want to become a Doctor?

There's a good portion of New Grad doctors who emigrate to Australia or Europe just because working in the NHS, under current Conservative austerity measures, is deeply unattractive. Oh, and Brexit will only exacerbate this problem.

It’s called free speech. It’s up to the listener to agree or disagree and also draw conclusions about the individual making them. To be frank, it’s what I would expect from a right wing commentator. #racism #nhs #doctor

It’s acceptable to me. It merely displays the sheer stupidity of your argument and opens up to possibilities of sound rebuttal. You talk about “training more doctors in the UK” like it requires the skill of a plumber/carpenter. It’s called capitalism. Don’t like it? Go to China.
