What’s extraordinary is that the Remoaners making this absurd demographic argument for a 2nd referendum aren’t even saying it in private, behind closed doors. They’re saying it in national newspapers! They have no shame.

I’m passionately remain but celebrating death because it fits your political agenda is just awful. It’s no wonder we’re so divided when we all comment on ‘groups’ and forget that they’re made up of individuals.
-
Where exactly is the celebrating in reporting demographics? Did you even read it?
-
I take the point and celebrating was the wrong choice of words but that demographic shift is made up of individuals whose voice remains powerful to their loved ones and if we’re trying to convince and bridge to those we disagree with I worry this line harms that.
-
I thought the piece was sober and factual, with none of the "rejoicing" JHB alleged - it was classic spin on her part. No celebration at all.

Come on, Polly Toynbee at 72 is an old woman with a mind fixed in the past. Hate to be like that, at 73 I am still learning. Voted Remain but since 2016 have learnt a lot and now for Brexit
-
Please can I ask (sincerely) what made you change your mind?
-
Easy, due to circumstances spent six months before referendum listening to campaigners, voted Remain, so after referendum maintained an interest and listened to Barnier, Juncker etc and realised how the EU was dominating the UK. Had not paid sufficient attention to that part cont
-
I continued to listen and learn and have no doubt the way the EU works in making laws, making judgements is not something I like. Also the UK obeys all the rules, the rest of EU bends them. So no, there is more for us outside the EU

The young often don't bother to vote and as they get older they realise the wisdom of leaving the EU. Time will make little difference to the outcome. I don't believe everyone would have voted leave 10 years ago and everyone would vote remain in 10 years time.
-
Which is why they are so desperate to keep us locked in now, they know the more the real totalitarian face of the EU is revealed, the less support it will have. They are already revealing themselves with their refusal to accept democracy.

If we are going to go down this route then we should alter the tax system to suit. The younger you are the more you pay - after all, us old ones arn't going to be around long enough to benefit.

A reasonable argument for staying in the EU has long gone. Now they are relying on the Grim Reaper.

The flaw in her argument is that the 1975 ref was overwhelmingly in favour to remain in what was the EEC. It seems strange that since that date the leavers vote has increased. All the evidence points to the fact that we become disenchanted & frustrated with EU as we mature.
-
Correct - we're old enough to remember being lied to in 1975
-
The vote in 1975 was do we want to stay in the EEC, successive treaties, particularly the Maastricht Treaty has changed the nature of what we voted for considerably.
-
Yes, but that was always the undeclared direction of travel, as Ted Heath admitted not long before he died
-
So how many us that remember the seventies would prefer we reset the clock to 1975?
-
If we did, knowing what we know now, I'd definitely vote 'Out'
